A cultural city is never finished. Its institutions preserve things, but its artists keep rearranging the conversation. The interesting space lies between the two: between what has been recognised and what is still looking for a room.
This notebook starts with original sources rather than borrowed verdicts. The Irish Museum of Modern Art, the Abbey Theatre and independent makers offer different ways into contemporary Dublin. Their own announcements are the starting point for checking an exhibition, performance or commission; they are not a substitute for an independent response.
We want to follow the work as well as the occasion: the material, the rehearsal, the question that remains after the audience leaves. These opening pages make no review claim. They leave space for properly attributed conversations and reporting to come.
